Have you ever seen one of those programmes on TV that feature animals in captivity, locked in small cages with minimum opportunities to socialise with their own species?

Well, here is the thing; millions of people in the UK are now living in a form of captivity, confined to living quarters, allowed out only to gather food and take a modicum of exercise. This is happening so that the awful disease that is Corona Virus can be combatted. However, it is important not to lose sight of the extraordinary sacrifice that every man, woman and child is making.

Living in lockdown for extended periods is completely contrary to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of human beings. Asking a human being not to socialise is like asking a fish not to swim.

In addition:

£730,000 employees so far have lost their jobs (Sky News August)
The Lancet states that substantial increases in the number of avoidable cancer deaths in England are to be expected as a result of diagnostic delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK (August issue 2019)
The education of millions of children has been disrupted.

I could go on and on.
So, thank you to every man, woman and child at home today because of lockdown restrictions. For your courage, patience and fortitude.

The sacrifice that you are making is incalculable and isn't always fully appreciated. You are amazing – true heroes.
